Abstract

As demand for goods increases, delays are introduced into networks, causing congestion. Additionally, reducing emissions within the supply chain is becoming increasingly important. Roads are stretched to capacity, so how else can we increase throughput, reduce emissions, and lower the risk of delay by balancing green footprints? The AEGIS project has been established to answer the above questions. AEGIS is a concept for short-sea transportation in the future. Using automation, we aim to solve the challenges currently faced by the short-sea shipping sector. Therefore, we compared land and maritime transportation between the ports of Rotterdam and Ghent by cost-benefit analysis.
