Abstract

Campylobacteriosis is the leading bacterial cause of gastrointestinal infection in the EU, and poultry is considered the primary source worldwide. Campylobacter is known to have a high genetic diversity, and certain strains are suspected to be more persistent in the farm-to-fork chain.

Aim: to elucidate the strain diversity and persistence of different Campylobacter isolates collected from Danish conventional and free-range farms and the final meat product packed in modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) during the same period (2022-2023).
