Abstract

This work is concerned with the calculation of the “Head Related Transfer Functions” (HRTFs) of a Head And Torso Simulator (HATS) using the “Boundary Element Method” (BEM). HRTFs are usually measured under free field conditions with a set of loudspeakers around the subject. In this paper the scattered field is evaluated using the BEM. For every frequency and for every combination of elevation and azimuth angles, the resulting sound pressure on the surface of the HATS was calculated. The HRTFs were determined from the sound pressure level at the position of the ear. The functions were calculated for two cases: 1) the torso and the head, and 2) the head alone, so the influence of the torso and shoulders on the acoustic response at the position of the ears can be found. Furthermore, diffuse field calculations have been made.
