Abstract
In this study, two natural frequencies of the radar antenna structure to be integrated to an air platform, which are critical for radar performance between 0-500 Hz, are maximized by using topology optimization technique and layout optimization of the stiffeners that are attached to the antenna surface. These two techniques are performed separately and then their performances are compared. The purpose of using these two techniques is to minimize the structural vibration response to the vibration inputs between 0-500 Hz coming from the air platform on which the antenna is integrated. The higher vibration responses on specific directions have adverse effects on radar antenna performance. The structural optimization techniques performed in this study are used for maximizing the natural frequencies of the mode shapes which are highly contributing to the critical vibration response in specified directions. At the end of this study, the detailed design of the radar antenna structure is modified with respect to the optimum solution such that the adverse effects of the structural vibrations on the antenna are minimized.
