Bifurcation Analysis of Spiral Growth Processes in Plants

Abstract

In order to examine the significance of different assumptions about the range of the inhibitory forces, we have performed a series of bifurcation analyses of a simple model that can explain the formation of helical structures in phyllotaxis. Computer simulations are used to illustrate the role of transient phenomena and to determine the basins of attraction for the various coexisting structures.
