    Abstract

The report summarises the scientific outcome of the CEC Environment project
“TOXFIRE. Guidelines for Management of Fires in Chemical Warehouses”. The project was performed in the period 1994 - 1996 in a multi-national co-operation between partners from United Kingdom, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. The project included micro, small, medium, and two types of large scale combustion experiments. The experiments focused on the characterisation of the combustion products and scaling effects are described. Additional, a few experiments on the effects of packaging and water on the fire products have been performed. Also included were items as fire modelling, risk assessment to human health and the environment. Finally, the basis of guidelines for safety engineers and fire brigades were established. The report describes the work done by each partner and the main results achieved. The references of all reports from the TOXFIRE project are listed.
