    Abstract

The report is the first progress report for the APAS-project 'Feasibility studies on combined wind diesel desalination in Greece and Spain'. The project is partly financed by EU (DG XII).

The project consists of two feasibility studies on combined wind diesel desalination systems at two Mediterranean islands, Paros and Menorca. The need for water at the two islands and also on many other islands in the Mediterranean and elsewhere is huge and the combination of fresh water production and high penetration of renewable energy, here wind, and is attractive, from both environmental, technical and economic reasons. The project will assess the technical and economical viability of such systems using Paros and Menorca as examples.
