Abstract

In this study, the conceptual design of a bushing type for root joint connection of 22MW reference wind turbine is presented. This conceptual design study focuses on the number of bolts, blade root diameter, and bolt size as the main design parameters. According to the recommended range of parameters explored in conceptual design, 192 number of M48 bolts for a 6.6 m blade root diameter is considered for further detailed design. A finite element model of an individual root joint is created to investigate details of design and their influence on stress distribution of the modelled component.
