Abstract
Improvement of BER owing to nonlinear transformation of input noise distribution by all-optical interferometric wavelength converters (IWCs) is investigated. It is demonstrated experimentally that a 5 dB penalty arising from EDFA-induced noise can be reduced to 1dB by employing IWCs. Measured noise distributions for the input and the converted output signals are given.
