Abstract

The present contribution emphasizes the importance of surface engineering and heat treatment of titanium alloys. Assorted examples are presented providing snapshots of research activities from the authors’ lab. The examples shown encompass fundamental properties of synthesized homogenous Ti-N solid solutions, high temperature surface hardening of titanium with mixed interstitials, oxide layer growth and formation of white robust surfaces as well as surface engineering and heat treatment of additively manufactured Ti6Al4V by means of nitrogen and hydrogen.
