An investigation of the problem of optimal control carried out by means of a two-dimensional model of a PHR reactor. A solution is found to the problem, and the possibility of achieving optimal control with burnable poisons such as boron, cadmium and gadolinium is discussed. Further, an attempt is made to solve the control problem of a BWR, but no final solution is found.
