Abstract

Recently, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) like the zeolite imidazole framework-8 (ZIF-8) have gained attention as pigments for anti-corrosive coatings. Compared to other MOF materials, ZIF-8 is easy to synthesize and has good chemical and thermal stability, thanks to its robust bonds. Furthermore, ZIF-8's high specific surface area and large pore volume, along with its pH-responsive release behavior, render it a promising smart container for the encapsulation of corrosion inhibitors for application in epoxy anti-corrosive coatings.
