A new and simple method for conversion of airborne NaI(Tl)
gamma-ray spectra to dose rates at ground level has been
developed. By weighting the channel count rates with the channel
numbers a spectrum dose index (SDI) is calculated for each
spectrum. Ground level dose rates then are determined by
multiplying the SDI by an altitude dependent conversion factor.
The conversion factors are determined from spectra based on Monte
Carlo calculations. The results are compared with measurements in
a laboratory calibration set-up. IT-NT-27. June 1996. 27 p.
