    Abstract

    The relevance of semiotics for extending multimedia description schemes will be shown relative to existing strategies for indexing and retrieval. The semiotic framework presented is intended to support a compositional semantics of flexible digital multimedia objects. Besides semiotics insights from Formal Concept Analysis is utilized.
