The number of accidents at work in Denmark has not declined in the
last decade, despite different types of preventions methods.
Traditionally preventions have been based on regulation of human
behaviour or machinery. Recently safety culture has been presented
as a new approach for the prevention of occupational accidents.
The implicit models of organisation and man within mainstream
safety culture approaches seem to be too rationalistic compared
with day to day life of organisations. A safety culture concept is
presented where the basis is symbolism.
