Abstract

This paper proposes a proactive operation strategy, aiming to enhance the resilience of the microgrid (MG) in weather-induced outage events. A two-stage optimization model is formulated in the proactive operation strategy for striking a balance between the economic benefits and preventing potential outage risks. The first stage targets optimizing the minimum reserved energy threshold in MG during the weather-waring period, ensuring the survivability of the critical load in a potential outage. The duration of the potential outage is estimated using issued meteorological information and historical data. The second stage pursues the maximization of revenue by energy exchange with the power grid while adhering to the established threshold from the first stage. Besides, the battery energy storage system (BESS) is temperature-sensitive, which will greatly affect the available energy of BESS, further impacting the operating results of MG in the winter. Therefore, a BESS model considering temperature impact is proposed, which aims to make a more resilient operating strategy. Simulation results indicate the proposed proactive operation strategy can effectively enhance the resilience of the MG and emphasize the accuracy of the designed operation strategy based on the proposed temperature-aware model.
