Abstract
This protocol describes a stepwise workflow for hatchery-based production of Palmaria palmata, covering the process from seed stock collection to the generation of deployment-ready juveniles. By structuring the workflow into defined operational steps, the protocol aims to support reproducible and scalable production under controlled conditions.
Across all stages, maintaining high biomass quality and minimizing fouling are central to achieving consistent outcomes. In particular, early-stage handling, thorough cleaning, stable environmental conditions, and careful timing of fertility
induction and seeding represent key control points that strongly influence downstream success.
The workflow is designed to be adaptable to different facilities and production scales, and specific parameter ranges should be adjusted to local conditions, infrastructure, and operational objectives. While this protocol provides a practical framework, continued refinement based on operational experience will be important for further improving efficiency and reliability.
As interest in Palmaria palmata cultivation continues to grow, the development of standardized and scalable hatchery practices will play a key role in enabling its broader commercial utilization.
