    Abstract

A partially parallel three level neutral point clamped (P2TLNPC) converter for applications with high and wide input voltage is presented in this paper. The basic operation of the P2TLNPC converter is introduced. The converter has the following advantages: reduced voltage stress on switches, variable voltage gain, simple modulation, inherent balancing of ac currents in parallelized modules. The operation of the converter is verified by experiments on a P2TLNPC prototype. The prototype uses Silicon Carbide (SiC) devices, and is able to maintain the output voltage stably at 500 V when the input voltage is stepped between 1 kV and 600 V.
