20 Gbit/s optical wavelength conversion in all-active Mach-Zehnder interferometer

Abstract

All-optical wavelength conversion at 20 Gbit/s has been experimentally demonstrated in a monolithically integrated all-active SOA-based Mach-Zehnder interferometer optimised for high-speed operation. Excellent BER performance with a penalty of <1 dB is reported for the first time.
