Vibration induced sliding of mass

    Project Details

    Description

A structure (e.g. a string, beam or plate), when vibrating, may induce large-scale sliding motions of small masses along the surface of the structure. The conditions for this nonlinear phenomenon to occur are investigated, as is the possibility to utilize it for passive vibration damping.
