Objective of this project was the development and experimentation with a silicon retina, which is based on discrete electronic circuitry. The retina was placed on a mobile robot in order to detect moving objects in front of a stable background image. The functionality of the signal processing is derived from the biological example, though working with a much lower spatial resolution. The artificial retina is prepared to be used in cooperation with a sound source localization system, so that a multimodal localization system can be built-up.
