The use of antisense-techniques for metabolic engineering of filamentous fungi

Antisense mRNA for the carbon catabolite repressor gene CreA was expressed in a strain of Aspergillus nidulans producing Aspergillus oryzae alpha-amylase. The recombinant strain had a significantly decreased carbon catabolite repression of alpha-amylase production, and the productivity was therefore several times higher in the recombinant strain than in a wild type.
