    Parasitic effects such as energy transfer upconversion can have a severely degrading impact on highly Er-doped glasses and is thus a major challenge to overcome in order to realize highly Er-doped planar waveguide amplifiers and lasers together with DFB fibre lasers.
    The goal of this project is the development of characterization and modelling tools for describing these parasitic effects, allowing for an optimization of highly Er-doped glasses.
    The project has been moved to COM by Dec. 31, 1998.
