Project Details
Description
In the project, a solar / heat pump system with a horizontal geothermal heat exchanger was investigated.
The studies have resulted in a significantly improved understanding of the type of plant, its operation and energy efficiency.
Typically, solar heat is transferred to the ground during periods when the tank is hot or the temperature out of the solar collector is too low. This means that solar heat is primarily supplied to the ground during the summer months. The operating condition prevents gradual cooling of the soil temperature over many heating seasons and the heat pump maintains a high performance.
The solar heating system has a heat storage which the heat pump can also use. The heat pump can be controlled so that it is mainly in operation during periods of cheap electricity and the produced surplus heat can be stored in the heat storage for later use. Therefore, the plant type is particularly suitable in an energy system with fluctuating energy production and energy price.
The knowledge obtained can be used to assist manufacturers of the plant type. The detailed measurements for many years as well as a computer model of the facility are particularly useful for DTU students who want to investigate the type of facility.
The project has led to a new project where the size of geothermal heat exchangers in solar / heat pump systems is optimized.
