Project Details
Description
The objective of the project is to expand the scientific knowledge of in-situ techniques for remediation of volatile organic compounds (VOC) resident in the unsaturated zone with special emphasis on soil vapour extraction (venting) and steam enhanced venting.
The specific research objectives of the project are: (1) to provide experimental data on soil remediation of heterogeneous unsaturated soils; (2) to evaluate the ability of remediation technologies to cleanup VOC contaminated soils as a function of a) soil heterogeneity and properties; b) fluid hydrocarbon properties; c) operation practice; (3) to develop new techniques and methods for remediating unsaturated heterogeneous soil formations contaminated by VOC
