River flow simulation by use of a semi 3D model

    Project Details

    Description

The study mainly focusses on the flow and sediment processes in a straight river cross section by use of a full Reynolds stress turbulence model (RSM) and a k-epsilon turbulence model. The RSM model is used in order to examine the turbulence-generated secondary flow cells and their effects on the bed forms.
The k-epsilon model is used to examine the lateral diffusion of suspended sediment that might be the stabilizing mechanism in some rivers. By including slope and gravity effects on the bed load together with a convective abd diffusive transport of the suspended sediment, morphology calculations are performed in order to find an equilibrium bed profile.
