Project Details
Description
The aim of the project is to reestablish the original coastal habitats to expand the area of protected nature habitat types and create larger ecological corridors and natural areas.
On land, the project is focused on the restoration of the Atlantic salt meadows (1330).
In between the salt meadows and the actual marine water areas, the coastal lagoons (1150*) create a transition zone. This habitat type will receive core focus in this project as coastal lagoons (1150*) will be restored in all four chosen sites.
In the shallow waters within the marine area, efforts are carried out to improve the conservation status for marine nature habitat types. It particularly concerns sandbanks (1110), mudflats and sandflats (1140), shallow bays and coves (1160) and stone reefs (1170).
By improving the conservation status for protected nature habitat types, the living conditions for protected birds and species will also improve.
Furthermore, this project will address climatic changes and rising sea levels, restore biodiversity and ecosystem services, and increase resilience of the environment in the water bodies concerned.
The project and project acitivites will be carried out in four different locations, Site 1 and Site 2 In Løgstør and Nibe Bredning in Limfjorden. Site 3 in the outer part of Mariager Fjord and Site 4 by the Beach of Nærø on the North Side of Fyn (Nordfyn). The four project sites are all located in SACs and SPAs and are thus protected by the Habitats Directive and the Birds Directive.
