Reproductive behavior and success of Baltic cod – does size matter? ( 114049)

Project Details

Description

Habitat degradation, oxygen depletion, pollution, and climate change, combined with decades of overfishing and unsustainable management have rendered Eastern Baltic cod in a remarkably poor state. As such, producing offspring from hatchery reared broodstock for restocking has emerged as a conservation strategy. Linking to the ReCod (release of small cod in the Baltic Sea) initiative, the ReBeBaCod project investigates the reproductive behavior of cod in a hatchery environment by applying advanced video analysis tools to study effects of broodstock size and deepen our understanding regarding reproductive processes, supporting development of hatchery techniques for improved reproductive success.

Involved in the project is also Johanna Fröjd, Project Manager of ReCod, BalticWaters, Sweden and PhD Student, Stockholm University, Sweden.
