Remote monitoring of sediment plumes generated by construction activities in sensitive marine areas

Project Details

Description

DTU-Aqua are currently developing a marine ROV (remote-operated vehicle), onto which a suite of sensors can be mounted to gather water quality data. This ROV can be combined with an optical turbidity sensor, as a prototype for M&E Engineering and Arup to utilise within the construction phases of their projects. The sediment disturbance data can then be utilised to feed back into the planning and types of construction activities undertaken, to minimise impact to the marine environment. The ROV is currently tethered to a cable, and optimal use of the ROV will require transformation to a wireless system – an electrical engineering modification which M&E Engineering can ultimately provide.
