The redox processes occuring in the fresh groundwater zone will be affected if seawater encroaches into the aquifer.Electron acceptors will change as seawater sulfate enters, but also the availability of the organic matter can change due to effects of the change in salinity. Describing the processes and deriving important controls is the main focus. The project has an initial "mapping" phase where the conditions around the fresh/saltwater interface is mapped a second phase where the effects of an artificially induced seawater encroachment will be studied, and a final phase where the reversibility of the ongoing reactions well be studied.
