Project Details
Description
The object of the project is to establish an expanded knowledge in the field of measurements and calculations of the thermal properties of aerogels and other porous insulation materials. The main effort in the project is to finalize the construction of the necessary instrument (vacuum lambda-apparatus). The vacuum lambda-apparatus will enable measurements of thermal conductivity of most homogenous materials under controlled conditions such as controlled atmospheric pressure, controlled external pressure and in an atmosphere of other gasses than air. The vacuum lambda-apparatus is a single specimen apparatus based on the "guarded hot plate principle" and is constructed in accordance to IS 8302 "Determination of steady-state thermal resistance and related properties - Guarded hot plate apparatus".
When the vacuum lambda-apparatus is finalized a number of measurements on aerogel under different atmospheric pressure will be carried out and compared to already reported results to ensure the accuracy of the apparatus.
