Project Details
Description
The target of the project has been the development and construction of an operational polarimetric SAR with 2 frequencies namely C-band and L-band. Such a SAR system has 6 independent data channels and it therefore offers substantially better possibilities for classification of the mapped areas than a single frequency, single polarisation SAR. The completed SAR has been used to acquire data for DCRS and for the European Space Agency (ESA) for research in remote sensing. The SAR system has furthermore been equipped to support across track (XTI) and the repeat track (RTI) interferometry (re.: SAR interferometry).
The work was completed early 1996 and all the design goals were achieved with an adequate margin. The work was performed in close co-operation with EMISAR ApS, Denmark, on the basis of a contract with the European Union's Joint Research Centre in Ispra, Italy. (Related projects - see: www.dcrs.dtu.dk).
