    Project Details

    Description

Partial discharges are the major factor in the degrading of high voltage insulation. This research area is pursued on a world-wide basis, but is addressed almost exclusively on an experimental basis. The development of a proper physical/mathematical theory linking the partial discharge event with the transient signal recorded at the system terminals is being undertaken. This enables a correct interpretation and assessment of such signals to be made. This will assist in the evaluation of insulation lifetimes.
