Outdoor sound propagation under the influence of wind and screens

    Project Details

    Description

The influence of screens on outdoor sound propagation is well established under neutral atmospheric conditions, and the influence of wind on sound propagation over a plane surface has also been investigated. The combination of wind and screen is, however, much more complicated to deal with and has not been investigated in detail before.
The present investigation is carried out by means of the scale model facility at the department where the experimental results have been obtained. These results have been compared with Parabolic Equation calculations of the Cranck-Nicolson type taking into account laminar flow before and after the screen.
A more accurate description of the flow pattern around the screen has been developed and included in the acoustic simulations. A paper has been published in Journal of the Acoustical Society of America in 1998.
