Nordic Centre of Excellence for Sustainable and Resilient Aquatic Production (SUREAQUA) (39477)

Project Details

Description

The Nordic Centre of Excellence for Sustainable and Resilient Aquatic Production aims to advance the bioeconomy transition in the Nordic region. The multidisciplinary centre will provide competence, innovation and technology to ensure sustainability and resilience in aquatic and associated land-based value chains.

The abundance and availability of aquatic raw materials provide the Nordic countries with unique opportunities for biomass production and refining. Aquatic resources must however be carefully managed to support sustainable future societies. Innovative technology and biorefinery solutions, enhancing aquatic production, profitability and job creation, will be implemented in cooperation with private and public stakeholders. Opportunities for commercialization of new products, services and processes will be identified and barriers mitigated. Proposed technology developments and biorefinery approaches will be subjected to socio-economic and environmental assessments to ensure that these solutions are sustainable and enhance resilience.

The center is divided into 4 thematic areas 1) Technology and Biorefinery, 2) Environmental Quality and Sustainability, 3) Socio-Economic Sustainability, and 4) Governance and Communication.
