Project Details

Description

This project aims at investigating how fishing and climatic conditions in the ocean affect the presence of bluefin tuna in Danish and northern European waters.

The general hypothesis is that both local and global conditions are important for whether the tuna occurs in Danish waters. Preliminary research indicates that factors include overfishing of tuna and changes in sea temperatures and -currents. In addition to these factors, it is possible that the amount of food also affects the tuna's presence in Danish waters.

The project hopes to achieve new scientific understanding of the reasons why bluefin tuna occurs in the waters near Denmark in some years, and in other years is rare or completely absent.
