Methods for Evaluating and Improving Digital Training Technologies, Performance, and Standards in Pharmeceutical Production Roles

Project Details

Description

This is a Novo Nordisk Industrial PhD.

Digital Training technologies are used globally across industries and educational organizations for the
competence development of adults. Research exists on how job performance is impacted by the
training process and trainees’ cognitive and noncognitive abilities. Studies have identified
specific cognitive and noncognitive factors that affect performance, but they are unique to the workplace
context. A pharmaceutical production site training process is highly dependent on the
work environment, and while there is little literature on that specific context, there is ample research
into modern technologies for knowledge transfer, which have proven effective as supplementary tools. There is however a significant lack of research comparing performance and learning
impact between newer digital training technologies, and older high-quality training technologies in particular in a production setting.
This study aims to fill out this gap by evaluating the current training process of the pharmaceutical
production roles at Novo Nordisk, mainly operators at factories, and the technologies used in it, and
developing methods and tools to improve future training and performance evaluation. The impact
assessment different training methods and technologies of an active production environment can be
conducted by utilizing this case company, thereby contributing to the scientific knowledge pool.
By improving the training process for operators, this research aims to improve the quality of digital
training technologies, training quality, operator performance and satisfaction, and eventually impact by
reducing production and training costs. The study will contribute by devising a process for improving
the quality of digital training technologies, the experience of production floor operators, and improving
operator task performance based on the empirical study in Novo Nordisk but contribute to all other
medicine manufacturing companies’ production roles or operators.
