Improving the productivity of Ghanian aquaculture (IPGA) (39618)

Project Details

The goals of IPGA are to increase the productivity of Ghanaian aquaculture through the development of floatable plant based diets for tilapia, and to identify optimal environmental conditions for performance of tilapia in Ghanaian pond culture systems.

Furthermore, the project aims to diversify Ghanian aquaculture by developing the culture of African bony-tongue. This entails development of artificial reproduction, protocols for larval rearing, weaning diets and determining the nutritional requirements for larval and juvenile stages of this species.

Finally, the project will increase the capacity of researchers, students and industry in improved aquafeeds for Tilapia and production technologies for the African bony tongue.

The project is coordinated by Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and is funded by DANIDA, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.
