Improved knowledge and management of a new cockle fishery in the Limfjorden (113494)

Project Details

Description

The main aim of the project is to provide the scientific basis and necessary monitoring tools for a management plan, strategy and regulatory measures of a new cockle fishery in the Limfjorden independent from the blue mussel fishery. The purpose of HjertFisk project is thus to provide the scientific basis and information to support the management of the Limfjorden cockle fishery based on new cockle biological and fishery knowledge, but also on previous knowledge on the fishery, and from discussions with relevant stakeholders. Specifically, it is the purpose of HjertFisk to support management decisions and regulations of the Limfjorden cockle fishery, such as harvest control rules to define catch limits (i.e. total allowable catch, TAC) or minimum size, as well as the approach for stock assessment of cockle stocks considering fishery dependent and independent data.

Funding
The project is co-funded by the European Union through the Danish Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Programme (EMFAF).
