IEA Task Material and component development for thermal storage systems

Project Details

Description

The aims of the project are within the IEA (International Energy Agency) SHC (Solar Heating & Cooling) Programme Task project “Material and component development for thermal storage systems” to develop economically attractive compact long term heat storages and to elucidate the suitability of the heat storages for different applications.
The project is the Danish part of the IEA Task project “Material and component development for thermal storage systems”. Work will be carried out in the following fields:
Component development
Application areas
Numerical simulation methods

The expert meetings of the project will be attended so that knowledge on the results of the international partners is achieved.
The Danish activities is focused on development of inexpensive compact heat storages based on salt hydrates, on optimization of energy systems based on these heat storages and on the interplay between the systems and the future energy system.

In cooperation with interested companies development work is carried out. Among other things a heat storage module based on sodium acetate trihydrate from Nilan A/S will be investigated by means of experiments. Further, a combined solar heating/heat pump system with a PCM heat storage will be investigated.
