A study is under way concerning the behaviour of high pressure jets of Di-methyl Ether (DME) in diesel injection systems. DME has been found to be an ultra-clean alternative to diesel fuel. Due to its high vapour pressure and compressibility, there are susbtantial differences in the behaviour of DME as compared to diesel fuel. High pressure injection chambers and high-speed photography are being used to study the penetration and spreading of the DME spray during the injection. The behaviour is being compared to existing correlations for diesel fuel.
