    Description

The subject of this project is the development of production systems. An essential starting point for the project is that work on formulating an operations strategy can have a positive impact on the development of production systems. An operations strategy will provide helpful suggestions for an appropriate structuring and certain appropriate characteristics of the production system. The content of the notion "Production system" has over the later years developed from covering a system for the m anufacture of physical products to a system for the delivery of solutions to customers, solutions that are combinatins of physical products, services and information. The production system does therefore contain a number of activities besides just manufacturing. This project has this broad perspective on the notion of production systems. With contingency and systems theory as background, the project aims at developing frameworks that intend to provide a better description of characteristics of actual production systems than what existing models and frameworks are capable of.
