Forchhammer's oceanographic legacy (39886)

Project Details

Description

The Danish professor Johan Georg Forchhammer is essentially forgotten in oceanography despite the fact that in the mid 1800s he accomplished a substantial break through in the study of ocean salinity that is still applied today. This project will serve to increase the awareness of Forchammer's contribution to oceanography while also broadening the understanding of seawater salinity and its relevance for how we understand key features of the oceans such as the thermohaline circulation.
