Project Details
Description
The Feasibility study for Power-to-X production on Bornholm is conducted in a partnership between companies, academia, and local authorities covering the entire value chain from energy production to demand for eFuels. The purpose of the study is to mitigate some of the uncertainties related Power-to-X production at Bornholm, and hence increase the likelihood of establishment. The project is
connected to the lighthouse project Nationalt Center for Grøn Energi, which will explore the possibilities of new business for local companies when Bornholm will be the first energy island in the world.
Besides investigating the feasibility of Power-to-X production at Bornholm in conjunction with the future energy island with 2-3 GW offshore wind power, the project will also develop two tools, which Power-to-X developers can use to mitigate uncertainties when planning Power-to-X production facilities. One tool can be used for modeling the optimal dimension and configuration of Power-to-X production at a given location and will be developed by Sustainability division at DTU Management. The other tool can be used to model how a given Power-to-X plant can integrate into the power system at a given location and the system services that the plant can therefore provide. This tool is developed by Electric Power and Energy division at DTU Wind and Energy Systems.
The project is led by Port of Roenne, who is also leading the project Bornholm Bunker Hub, which will establish a green fuel station for vessels in the Baltic Sea, and eFuels from local Power-to-X production can be sold in Bornholm Bunker Hub. Furthermore, the project includes Ørsted Hydrogen, Skovgaard Energy, Topsoe, Danfoss Power Electronics, Ramboll, Bornholms Energi & Forsyning,
Bornholms Regionskommune, Sustainability division at DTU Management, Electric Power and Energy division at DTU Wind and Energy Systems and Gate 21.The project is supported by the European Regional Development Fund (REACT22-0054)
