Project Details
Key findings
The main objective of this project is to increase the number of anglers that engage in the citizen science platform Fangstjournalen, that aim to further our knowledge about the target fish populations in Danish recreational reel and rod fisheries as well as recreational fisheries in general. In particular, we focus on increasing the educational side of the citizen science project by stimulating the recreational fishers appetite for understanding ecology and biology of aquatic environments as well as fisheries management towards the goal that anglers become better and more responsible stewards of this national natural capital.
In specific the project will focus on
1) expanding the citizen science platform Fangstjournalen, which consist of a web browser and an angler app, i.e., by developing additional app functionality that supports anglers education in ecology, biology and responsible resource management
2) expanding marketing and communication campaigns to attract anglers to the citizen science project through a designated Facebook page. In addition to facilitating knowledge flow between researchers and laymen, retention of citizen scientist participants on the platform are likely to be increased by these focus areas.
Funding
The project is funded by The Danish Agency for Science and Innovation.
