Description
The PRØV-STEN project aims to enhance the management and sustainability of lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus) fisheries in Danish waters.
Lumpfish fisheries primarily target female fish for their roe, making it difficult to estimate total biomass accurately. This project focuses on improving biological data collection and developing reliable conversion factors for estimating whole fish weight based on roe weight. The project will also explore CPUE time-series collected from historical log-books to better understand fishing pressure over time.
Data collection will be carried out through an experimental fishery in collaboration with local fishers, overseen by DTU Aqua. Biological samples, including size, weight, and age, will be collected to refine data used for national evalustion of the stock.
The results will help improve the scientific foundation for lumpfish management, ensuring a sustainable approach to fisheries in the Danish EEZ.
PRØV-STEN is funded by Fiskeafgiftsfonden and will complement ongoing research under other projects such as COASTFISH.
