Project Details
Description
BEGONIA is a coordination and support action project aimed at accelerating the digital transformation of the energy and transportation sectors across EU member states. The project's primary objective is to establish secure and efficient cross-border Operational Digital Platforms (ODPs) that leverage existing and emerging European data, cloud, edge computing, and connectivity infrastructures. These ODPs will enhance interoperability and standardization, fostering a virtuous cycle of public-private investment partnerships.
The project will identify and prepare use cases for deployment in at least 10 EU member states, conduct feasibility studies, and establish regulatory and technical frameworks. BEGONIA will develop visionary digital platforms that incorporate renewable energy sources, improve energy production and consumption efficiency, encourage eco-friendly transportation modes, and minimize carbon emissions, aligning with the EU's environmental and energy objectives.
Through its innovative approach, BEGONIA aims to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions from energy production and consumption, improve the energy and environmental performance of European digital infrastructures, and provide solutions to address the ongoing energy crisis and prevent blackouts. Additionally, the project will facilitate increased integration of renewable energy sources into the grid, promote efficient energy production and consumption based on real-time data, encourage sustainable transportation modes informed by cross-border data, and reduce transportation-related carbon emissions through optimized routes.
By engaging stakeholders and communities, BEGONIA strives to ensure the project's success and long-term sustainability, stimulating the digital economy and generating employment opportunities in upcoming work programs.

Layman's description
BEGONIA is a project that aims to create digital platforms to make the energy and transportation systems in EU countries more efficient, sustainable, and interconnected. It will use advanced technologies like cloud computing, data analysis, and connectivity to develop cross-border solutions that can integrate renewable energy sources, optimize energy production and consumption, promote eco-friendly transportation, and reduce carbon emissions. The project will work with different EU countries to implement these digital platforms and ensure they fit local regulations and needs. By doing this, BEGONIA hopes to help the EU transition to a greener and more digital economy, while also creating new job opportunities.
