Project Details
Description
The principal purpose of the EMISAR flights is to collect L- and C-band polarimetric SAR data as well as interferometric SAR data for the scientific studies conducted by DCRS. However, some flights have an additional technological purpose as they serve as a test and verification of new EMISAR options.
Ten EMISAR flights were conducted in 1996. In the period March to July, soil and vegetation data were collected from the Foulum area in Jutland. Many other sites were mapped including a test site for landscape ecology at Kalø and the migrating sand dune, Råbjerg Mile. Also, data from Danish waters were collected on request by the Danish Air Material Command in order to gain experience with oil spills detection.
On a campaign to Greenland in March sea ice was mapped. Also, data from the Daugaard Jensen Glacier were collected. A second Greenland campaign had to be cancelled due to a tragic aircraft crash on the Faeroe Islands.
