Development of indicators and threshold values for Good Environmental State (GES) and fisheries impacts for implementation in the MSFD and Natura 2000 management (GESseabed) (39805)

Project Details

The project aims to develop tools for Good Environmental State (GES) assessment related to fisheries and nature management goals and measures set to safeguard sustainable use of resources and achieve seafloor integrity under the EU Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) and Natura 2000, and the HELCOM and OSPAR sea conventions.

Activities include further development and test application of ICES benthic indicators for assessment of fisheries impacts and setting threshold values for GES of benthic Broad Habitat Types (BHTs)biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, as well as spatial and temporal trade-offs between fisheries effort and yield relative to seafloor impact and integrity in national (Danish) and international waters.
The project is funded by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) and the Danish Fisheries Agency.
