Developing the Norwegian Energy System in the European Energy Transition

NORENS will improve the knowledge base for planning an efficient, profitable and robust electricity system infrastructure for Norway in light of the European energy-system transition.
Secondary objectives:
- Identify the main economic, technological and political drivers in the electricty market, and their underlying uncertainties
- Assess the economic potential and mutual competition of various flexibility alternatives
- Identify and assess likely climate and energy policy options in Northern Europe (N-E)
- Improve the capability of energy system models to handle uncertainty as well as new flexibility alternatives
- Quantify implications for the Norwegian power system investments and operation of expected market and policy developments in Europe and the associated uncertainties
- Synthesize the policy lessons and suggest new directions for energy policy and management that enables a sound development of the Norwegian energy system in light of the N-E energy transition.
